The only way I could think so would be that the installation of DesktopX overwrote some of my dx files... But the world will never know for sure. :)

DirectX 9.0a user install is a little flakey. I had to reinstall when I installed the ATI TV Womnder VE card and all. I switched to a WinTV card after all the problems I was having and low and behold after I reinstalled DIrectX 9.0a user update everything was all happy again.
