How do I modify stock units like the tank?
Let's say I edit the armor of the tank to 30,
Now I have a new units.js file, but I don't know what to do to have the game recognize it and overwrite the default unit descriptions.
If I edit the units.js script directly in script.pak only, I get errors.
If I copy the units.js section and place it as a separate file in MODS, it is ignored. Similarily if I put that file in the scripts directory.
So now I have a new units.js file, but I don't know what to do to have the game recognize it and overwrite the default unit descriptions.

The script.pak file cant be modified directly (that was to stop cheating in multiplayer.) You can override the base units the same way you add newone.
What you have to do is build a new script that looks like the ones created for mods. In that script override the createUnits methods like the mods do. In your override call the old createunits method. Then check the unit that comes back and if it is a tank modify it.
You can also do all kinds of things like only modify the tanks for one player and not the other, or change the images for one player, etc.
If that went to fast let me know and I can try and post some code here.

Great game. Sent off my order yesterday for full game. I too would like to modify a unit. Any chance of an example ?

Yes, download Adam Chen's mod and take a look at the files in it. It modifies the standard units.

what this site really needs is a section that makes it really easy for people to put their mods up. I know I'm going to make some and I would like to share them with other pocketwar players

For the moment zip them up and post a message to the forums with a description of the mod, and attach the mod to the post.
I'll see about adding a section to the download page or adding in a whole new mod page.
I still need to work on the multiplayer game pages as well...
If only I had three more hours in each day.

When I sign new people up, I masquerade as them for a second. Sometimes I forget to log out and log back in as me.
