I am about two months into PW and spend far too much time on it, but hey its great!
Two questions
1. Is there any way of starting out with more than 1 city and 1 Marine.
I would like to start with a reasonable amout of air,sea and land units
without having to spend so much time building them up.
2. What are the sizes (dimensions) of the maps (PC version)

1. At the moment no. You could however build a mod that would catch the map creation time and give you more cities. The other was is if I ever get the map editor done :) you can use it to edit the map and give yourself more cities.
2. Map sizes are the same on both pc and pocket pc.
Small: 50x50 - 8 cities
Med: 100x100 - 18 cities
Large: 150x150 - 35 cities
XLarge: 197x197 - 60 cities
