Always save the battle when the screen saver closes so that the next time it runs it finishes the current battle. Saving must be done transparent to users so that they don't have to wait for the save to happen before being able to use their computer again.
Alternatively, instead of exiting, just pause and minimize the program, although this might suck up needed RAM. It would still need to save if the computer was shut down.

You know you can put all of these into the same thread :)
The code is there but I turned it off. It is possible that the game can get into a steady state where each army is so well defended that the game never ends. If the screen saver always keeps track (saves and loads under the covers) then if a game got into that steady state it would never end.
There are some solutions to this, a button in the config screen that says restart the war, a timer that can be configured that says after X turns call it a draw and start a new war or a button on the screen.

Sounds good!
I used different threads to help you keep track of what you've addressed and what should be pushed back. One long thread of feature requests would get hard to follow quick, especially if I keep posting here!
